At Zellija Designs we are a team of four passionate entrepreneurs deeply connected to our rich Moroccan culture. Our journey began with chance encounters in Morocco, then in Chicago, where our families’ paths crossed again, strengthening a friendship that eventually led to the creation of Zellija Designs. 

 

Moroccan heritage is steeped in centuries-old traditions that beautifully shape natural materials, such as clay, copper, thread, and leather, into the finest pieces using millennia-old craftsmanship. Artisans from many cities compete to showcase their expert craftsmanship and traditions...Fes, Meknes, Marrakech, Safi, Tiznit, Tafraout -to name a few. These traditions are passed on from someone called a “Ma’alam”, a master artisan, to his disciples, who will one day become “Ma’alams” themselves. From the intricately woven rugs of the Atlas Mountains region to the hand-carved furniture of the Souss Valley, each piece is curated to tell a story of generations past. Our dedication to quality and authenticity ensures that every item offered on our website is a testament to the craftsmanship of Morocco's Ma’alams.

 

With this strong commitment to preserving and sharing the beauty of Moroccan traditions, especially for our children growing up in the United States, we embark on a mission to create something meaningful. This legacy bridges continents and honors our heritage.

By ethically sourcing our materials, we preserve tradition and foster economic independence and social upward mobility for women and their communities.
